Compost
Each year, the City’s yard waste site receives organic materials—like leaves, grass clippings, and branches—gathered from residents, city maintenance projects, and storm clean-up efforts. This material is then processed into nutrient-rich compost used to improve soil in gardens, parks, and community spaces across the city.
Collected material is shredded and arranged into long piles called windrows. These piles are carefully managed—moistened as needed and turned regularly to provide oxygen and accelerate the decomposition process.
Over the course of 8 to 16 weeks, natural microbes break down the organic material. Once the composting process is complete, the compost is allowed to cure for several additional weeks to ensure it is stable and ready for use. The result is a dark, crumbly compost ideal for enriching soil.
When compost is ready, residents can access it for free at the yard waste site (hand-shovel only), or request delivery for a fee. To request delivery, please click here to complete the order form.
