Minimum Qualifications
- U.S. Citizen and a resident of Iowa or intends to become a resident upon hire
- 18 years of age at time of employment
- Valid driver’s license
- High school diploma or GED
- Not addicted to drugs or alcohol
- Good moral character determined by a background check that includes fingerprint search conducted on local, state, and federal fingerprint files
- No felony convictions
- No conviction of domestic abuse, or other offenses of domestic violence, stalking, and any offense in which a weapon was used in the commission of the act.
- Meet the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) physical and vision requirements
- Non-certified officers must pass the written POST test and ILEA required physical fitness test
- Certified officers do not need to pass the physical agility test or retake the POST exam.
- Pass physical/drug test and psychological evaluation (MMPI)
- Live within 30 miles of the Waverly Police Department
- Non-certified officers must sign a four-year employment contract
