Flooding Alert – Be Prepared, Waverly
The City of Waverly is actively monitoring river conditions. One key resource we use is the National Weather Service (NWS) Water Prediction Service. This website (https://water.noaa.gov/gauges/WVLI4) shows current river levels for Waverly and predictions for locations upstream (Charles City) and downstream (Janesville) from Waverly. The National Weather Service does not predict river levels for Waverly due to the inflatable dam.
While the inflatable dam has greatly reduced the threat of flooding, there are still areas in southeast Waverly that are prone to flooding. These areas typically experience some level of flooding when the Cedar River in Waverly exceeds 11 feet.
City officials also utilize the river level predictions for Charles City and Janesville to anticipate when flooding may impact Waverly.
