City Announces Summer Bituminous Seal Coat Program

The City of Waverly is preparing to begin its annual Bituminous Seal Coat Program, an important roadway maintenance effort designed to extend the life of local streets and improve driving conditions.

The process involves applying a layer of oil (bitumen) followed by a layer of rock to create a protective surface that helps seal cracks, reduce wear, and enhance overall roadway durability.

Once the rock is placed, residents can expect minimal disruption. Vehicles may drive slowly over the newly treated surface right away, helping embed the rock into the bitumen for a more stable finish.

A map showing all areas scheduled for seal coating this summer is available at www.waverlyia.com/sealcoat26.  The project should be complete by the end of July, weather permitting. Crews will provide advance notice to neighborhoods directly affected by the work to ensure residents are prepared for temporary changes in street access or parking.

After the seal coat has had time to settle and fully cure, street sweepers will return in late fall to remove any loose rock chips. This final step helps keep streets clean and improves surface quality heading into the winter season.
