2026 Annual Awards Celebration

WAVERLY, IA – The Waverly Chamber of Commerce & Main Street hosted its highly anticipated Annual Awards Celebration last night at the Heritage Ballroom on the campus of Wartburg College. The event brought together over 100 business leaders and Chamber Main Street supporters to celebrate the achievements of the past year and recognize outstanding contributions to the community.
2025 Board Chair Jodi Geerts reflected on the resilience of Waverly’s business community, highlighting the positive momentum that continued despite challenges throughout the year. She recognized both new initiatives and renewed relationships that have strengthened the organization and the broader community. Incoming Board Chair Brittney Diercks shared her enthusiasm for the year ahead, emphasizing continued collaboration and strong partnerships as key to building on that momentum.
In her remarks, Executive Director Chelsea Petersen celebrated the organization’s success in 2025, including securing Main Street Iowa grants and positioning Waverly for continued growth. She noted, “Waverly wins every day because of the people in this room and the businesses and individuals who call Waverly home.”
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the annual awards, recognizing individuals and organizations that have made a significant impact in Waverly:
- The Wartburg College Community Service Award – Presented by Michael Gleason, this award was given to Dr. Ann Rathe. A dedicated and compassionate leader in the Waverly community, she has generously given her time and expertise to local organizations, community initiatives, and volunteer efforts, making a lasting impact on countless individuals and families.

- Signs & Designs Distinguished Small Business Award – Presented by owner Melissa Barber, this award went to The Other Place II. For nearly 50 years, The Other Place II has been proud to serve the Waverly community, offering not only great food, but also a place where community connections and memories are made.

- United Equipment Accessories Distinguished Large Business Award – Presented by Mark Hanawalt, this honor was awarded to TruStage, recognizing the organization’s continued investment in the Waverly community, support of local initiatives, and dedication to serving its customers and community partners.

- Waverly Health Center Distinguished Non-Profit Award – Presented by Lindy Ibeling, this year’s recipient was Bremer County Fair Association, recognized for its longstanding dedication to providing educational opportunities, supporting local youth through 4-H and FFA, and bringing the community together each year through the Bremer County Fair and related events.

- First Bank Lifetime Achievement Award – Presented by First Bank President Steve Willemssen, this prestigious honor was awarded to Bob Buckingham, recognized for his exceptional leadership and longstanding dedication to the Waverly community. Through his service with Waverly Utilities and the Waverly Chamber & Main Street, he has played a key role in advancing local infrastructure, supporting businesses, and strengthening community partnerships.
