Come help kick off the growing season at the Waverly Community Sharing Gardens' Spring Planting Day on Saturday, May 9th, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The garden is located at the corner of 2nd St SW and 5th Ave SW, one block west of South Riverside Park. A rain date is scheduled for the following Saturday.
This marks the 16th growing season for the Waverly Community Sharing Garden and Orchard. Last year, more than 12,000 pounds of fresh, healthy vegetables and fruit were grown and donated to local families experiencing food insecurity. This produce is distributed through the Northeast Iowa Food Pantry, which serves 16 counties in Northeast Iowa, as well as the Waverly Pantry.
Volunteers are also welcome throughout the growing season on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 8:00-10:00 a.m. Gardeners of all experience levels are encouraged to participate. It's a great family activity and a wonderful way for kids to learn how food is grown.
