Rental Inspection Program update

posted in Community Development on May 18, 2015

Rental Housing in Waverly is governed by a Code ordinance approved by the Waverly City Council on January 19, 2015 (Ordinance 991, Chapter 91).  The Code requires all landlords to register their rental properties with the City of Waverly in order to receive a Rental Permit prior to renting any unit to tenants.  The ordinance applies to all rental properties in Waverly, including converted single family homes and duplexes, where the occupant(s) are not the owners of the property.

Registration includes submitting information for every rental property structure and a fully completed self-inspection form for every individual unit.  The City has forms available for download on the Community Development website at www.waverlyia.com/rental.  Completed forms shall be mailed or delivered to the Community Development office.  Forms may also be scanned and emailed to the same office at the email address shown on the registration form.  The ordinance requires a one- time initial registration fee of $20 per rental property plus $3 per each additional dwelling unit.

Landlord registration began on March 10, 2015.  The effective enforcement date for this Rental Housing Code is July 1, 2015.  To avoid any penalties, please register and provide the requested information to this office as soon as possible.

Please contact the Waverly Community Development Office at (319) 352-9208 or zoning@ci.waverly.ia.us with any questions.
