Update on Cedar River Flooding in Waverly Media Release #8

MEDIA RELEASE #8:   Update on Cedar River Flooding in Waverly

Based on the National Weather Service’s river level predictions for Charles City and Janesville, city officials for Waverly are predicting that the Cedar River in Waverly will crest early Sunday morning and may rise to about 13.2 feet.  At 4:15 pm today the river level was 12.8 feet.

Rising water may require the additional roadway closures of:

1st Street NW between 1st and 3rd Avenues
Cedar Lane south of the Brown Lane Intersection.   

If your property is without gas and/or electricity and you are ready to have both utilities turned back call on, call MidAmerican Energy at 888-427-5632 for gas and Waverly Utilities at
319-559-2000 for electric.

Anyone who needs a place to shelter can go directly to Grace Baptist Church (across from McDonalds) or they can call Red Cross at 319-464-5740.  Shelter in Waverly is available to Waverly and surrounding communities.

If needed, cleanup kits are also available at Grace Baptist Church.

The southeast Waverly neighborhood is expected to be inaccessible until Monday, September 26.

Residents of Waverly should be flood aware and continue to monitor the news outlets.
