PRELIMINARY NOTICE OF INTENT TO FILL A COUNCIL BY APPOINTMENT

The City Council of the City of Waverly, Iowa, has a vacancy of a seat. The office of this council seat will expire December 31, 2023 and is vacant as of May 31, 2021 pursuant to Section 69.2, Code of Iowa.

Pursuant to section 372.13(2) of the Code of Iowa, the Council has elected to fill the vacancy by appointment, but the electors of the City have the right to file a petition requiring that the vacancy be filled by a special election.

The appointment shall be for the period until the next pending election, as defined by Section 69.12, Code of Iowa.

The Council will make the appointment to fill the vacancy at its regular meeting on June 7, 2021 unless Council chooses before this date to hold a special election.  The appointment will become effective immediately and will expire after a winner has been declared and the oath is taken by the newly elected person following the election in November 2021. 

Ward 2 eligible electors of the City of Waverly, Iowa, wanting to be considered for appointment should submit a request in writing to the City Clerk’s office by 12 PM on Monday March 29, 2021.
