Waverly, IA-In November, the Waverly Chamber of Commerce visited three Waverly businesses, presenting three Progress Awards.

Friends of the Family was presented a Progress Award to recognize their new branding, including a new name, logo and website. The organization has also welcomed a new Director of Development, Tara Tann. Friends of the Family is celebrating their 25th Anniversary of service in Waverly and beyond. In late 2016, they received a grant to combat human trafficking in 14 counties, including Bremer County. This program provides outreach and comprehensive services for victims of human trafficking. They have also converted Turning Point Rural Housing Project into a rapid rehousing program, which allows them to work on quickly rehousing homeless families and individuals in Bremer County. Friends of the Family continues to work hard to meet the needs of all who are facing homelessness, domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. For more information on Friends of the Family, visit their website.

Also receiving a Progress Award was The W for their new Assistant Director for Group Fitness and Personal Training, Leslie Lyons. She has worked in healthcare for more than 20 years, with the last 14 in radiology at the Waverly Health Center. Lyons became a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor in 2013. With that certification, she also became a certified health coach. The W is working on a variety of projects to benefit community members. The W hopes to implement a new fitness program for those affected with Parkinsons Disease in 2018. This program would not only reach out to those with Parkinson’s, but also to community members that are affected with other neurological conditions. Lyons says, “I hope this is just the beginning of bridging the gap between the healthcare world and the fitness community.” There are a variety of other activities offered at The W, including swimming lessons (private and group), fun zone on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, rock climbing and basketball courts. Visit The W’s website for more information on the activities they offer.

The Ambassadors also presented Calease Chiropractic Center, LLC with a Progress Award to welcome new provider, Dr. Eric Brocka. He joined the team at Calease Chiropractic on May 15, 2017. He is looking forward to working in the Waverly community. “Waverly is such a close knit community, it almost seems like one big family to me,” Brocka said. Brocka’s hours are Monday and Wednesday 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday 1:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Calease Chiropractic Center is currently accepting new patients for their variety of services including chiropractic, nutrition response testing, electric stimulation, ultra sound, cold laser and EBC cleanse. Calease Chiropractic Center is also featuring a product of the month and for November it is probiotics! At Calease Chiropractic Center, they provide themselves on serving the community, and they do that through offering free posture exams to any businesses. Posture exams include an analysis, an explanation and exercises to help with poor posture.
