The Waverly Police Department is currently making plans for the next Citizen's Police Academy.  Our plan is to start the academy on February 07, 2013.  We would then meet each Thursday night from 6-9pm.  We will begin accepting applications after the holidays on December 26th, so stay tuned to our website, the Waverly Newspaper, and KWAY for the announcement of when to submit applications!  You won't want to miss this opportunity to get an in-depth look at your Waverly Police Department!

 

14 September 2012 - Sexual Abuse Arrest

On September 13, 2012 the Waverly Police Department arrested Leo L. Berger (52) of Waverly, IA for Sexual Abuse, 2nd Degree, (Class B Felony). Berger was booked into the Bremer County Jail and is being held to appear before the duty Magistrate.

The Waverly Civil Service Commission is accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for appointment as Police Officer. Applicants must meet standards set forth by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. Applicants selected for testing will undergo written examination, physical fitness testing, interview, psychological testing, comprehensive background investigation, and medical testing, including drug testing.

The current Police Officer Salary range is $45,099 - $52,765.

27 August 2012 - Sex Offender Registry Arrest

On 08/24/2012, Waverly Officers arrested Felix Cecil McElory (50) for failing to comply with the Iowa Sex Offender Registry restrictions. The defendant is currently a registered sex offender from the State of New York and had allegedly spent approximately three weeks living in a Waverly.  This action constituted the violation in which McElory failed to notify the Sheriff of Bremer County within five days of establishing a residency. McElory faces a class ‘D’ felony if convicted.
