Water Main Project to Start

posted in Public Works on July 10, 2017

The City’s hired contractor will start replacing the old 4-inch water main with an 8-inch water main on Tuesday, July 11th.  The work will impact the east half of 1st Street SE from Bremer Avenue down through the intersection of 2nd Avenue SE.

During the first phase of the project they will be working down to 1st Avenue SE, allowing businesses on the west side of 1st Street SE access through 1st Avenue SE and up the west side of 1st Street SE.  The west end of the alley behind 100 block of Bremer Avenue will be blocked during this phase in order to get the new water main placed.  Depending on weather, the contractor hopes to get the first block installed and backfilled by the end of next week (July 21st).

The next phase, which will block the intersection of 1st Avenue SE, won’t begin until access is restored to the alley and 1st Street SE is reopened at Bremer Avenue.  There will be times when certain areas will be down to one lane of traffic so please exercise caution and please be patient.  The entire project is expected to take approximately 4 weeks, depending on the weather.

We will do our best to keep you informed of changes and appreciate your patience.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Public Works Office at 352-9065 or email dee@ci.waverly.ia.us .      View site map.
