The State of Iowa recently enacted laws that allow the sale and use of consumer fireworks by individuals. Individuals must be 18 to purchase fireworks, but persons under 18 can use fireworks as long as all other requirements are followed. Such use is limited to certain dates and certain hours.
A person shall only use or explode consumer fireworks from June 1 through July 8 and from December 10 through January 3 of each year.
A person shall only use or explode consumer fireworks between the hours of 9AM and 10PM, except the following:
Between the hours of 9AM and 11PM on July 4 and the Saturdays and Sundays immediately preceding and following July 4.
Between the hours of 9AM and 12:30AM on December 31 and on the day immediately following.
Between the hours of 9AM and 11PM on the Saturdays and Sundays immediately preceding and following December 31.
A person shall only use or explode consumer fireworks on that person’s private property or on the property of a person who has consented to the use of consumer fireworks on their property.
Consumer fireworks use is NOT ALLOWED ON CITY OWNED PROPERTY, INCLUDING PARKS, except for displays for which the City has issued a permit.
Please be safe and always use common sense when dealing with fireworks.
