WAVERLY, April 12, 2021 – The 16th annual Waverly Art Walk will return to an in-person event on Saturday, May 1, in Kohlmann Park, located along the Cedar River in downtown Waverly. More than 30 artists from the tri-state area will display and sell their work from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m during the juried fine arts and crafts show.
Artists are pre-selected for quality and originality prior to the show and will be juried during the show for cash prizes. Art Walk judges this year are local artists and former art teachers, Dennis and Diane Peterka. Jewelry, acrylic painting, ceramics, metal sculpture, fiber, glass, wood, photography, and more will be exhibited by artists.
“Our artists are especially looking forward to an in-person show season,” said Jennifer Jones Ruiz, Art Walk founder. “For many, this will be their first show in over a year due to the pandemic, and we want to make safety measures are taken for the comfort and health of everyone.”
David Leeper, artist from Cedar Rapids and long-time Art Walk participant, will return with his dragons, birds and other metal sculpture work this year.
"We love starting the art show season with the Waverly Art Walk. It is always a great show with great artists and well attended by the community,” said Leeper.
“We had a challenging 2020 and are thrilled to begin a creative and safe 2021 in Waverly. We are limiting our shows this year, but certainly wanted to include Waverly,” Leeper added.
Paul Imholte “Musical String Man”, of St. Cloud, Minn., will provide live musical entertainment
on a number of string instruments. Most notable is the dulcimer, an ancient string instrument from the Middle East.
All attendees are strongly encouraged to wear a face covering and practice social distancing as much as possible. Hand sanitizing stations will also be placed in the park. There will be no indoor backup location in case of inclement weather.
There is no cost to attend the event and it is open to the public. Art Walk is co-sponsored by Waverly Leisure Services and the Waverly Chamber of Commerce.
