Ambassador Visits - June 2016

In June the Waverly Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors visited three businesses in our community.

The Ambassadors presented a Progress Award to Blush Ledet Salon, located at 2015 20th St. NW in Waverly. Owner, Kim Newby, has owned Goodlookin Salon in Cedar Falls since 2004. Prior to owning her own salon she worked at Cost Cutters in Waverly, and developed life-long friendships with many of the stylists. In early 2015 Newby decided to open a salon in Waverly with these stylists. Shortly after her search for a location Newby was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, but she refused to let cancer stop her, and just one month after a double mastectomy she opened the doors to Blush Ledet Salon.  The Salon and Spa offers many services including coloring, cutting, nails, pedicures, massage, air brush tanning and more. It is also the only place in Waverly to offer Sugaring, an organic hair removal system. “The salon is beautiful from the decor to the stylists. Spend a few minutes in a chair at Blush Ledet and your day will feel beautiful!” says Newby.

The Ambassadors presented RADA Manufacturing with a Progress Award in honor of their new Vice President and General Manager, Phil Jones.  Most of Waverly knows Jones as the former City Administrator, since he left city office last November he has enjoyed working in the private sector.  At RADA Jones works alongside almost 100 employees who serve in various capacities including production, packing and shipping, along with marketing, customer service, finance, and more. “RADA has been helping fundraisers, non-profits, small business, and individuals meet their goals since 1948, and I’m privileged to be able to help keep that legacy going.” says Jones. Jones still stays active in the community and serves as part of the Waverly Rotary Club, the treasurer of Northeast Iowa Food Bank, and is active at his church using his hidden talent as a substitute organ player.  Jones also is part of the leadership team that is organizing Oktoberfest.

The Ambassadors presented Craig Friis with a Dollar Award in congratulations for opening his new business, Assurance Home Inspectors. Friis operates his business out of his home on a small acreage north of Waverly.  Obtaining his home inspector’s certification from American Home Inspectors, Friis is qualified to do pre-purchase, pre-listing, insurance and mortgage inspections.  Friis is very familiar with the Waverly housing market as he has lived in Waverly for 28 years and has worked in residential real estate industries for 25 years.  In 1999 he and his wife Deb started Appraisal Assurance Company and are state certified real property appraisers. The Waverly Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Program serves as a public relations arm of the Waverly Chamber by welcoming new businesses, recognizing business expansion efforts, recruiting new members to the Waverly Chamber, and by serving as a representative of the Chamber throughout the community.
