Q. My neighbor never shovels their sidewalk in the winter and their lawn always looks unkept during the summer. Is there anything I can do about this? -Anonymous
A. The City of Waverly has nuisance ordinances which require property owners to maintain their lawns and sidewalks. In this case here, the property owner (or renter) is required to remove snow from all adjacent sidewalk within 48 hours of snowfall. They are also required to maintain their lawn so as not to allow noxious weeds or grass taller than 12 inches. If you think someone may be in violation of these ordinances you may contact the Leisure Services department at (319) 352-6263 and staff will investigate. Prolonged violation of these ordinances may result in City staff contracting a third party to remove snow/mow grass and assess the cost to the owner's property taxes. -Leisure Services
