Award-winning author Paula Bosco Damon will facilitate a writing workshop from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 26, at the Waverly Public Library.
Preregistration for this free public event, designed for ages 18 and older, is requested by calling 319-352-1223. Participants must bring writing tools, pens/pencils and notepaper or laptop computer, to the workshop. During the event, Damon will read samples of her work and conduct a book signing.
“Everyone has stories within,” Damon said. “This hands-on workshop will offer tips on overcoming writer’s block and discovering and developing the many narratives just waiting to be told,”explained the South Dakota-based author and instructor. “It’s a very exciting process of discovery.”
Damon’s non-fiction works have garnered countless honors, including First Place in national and state writing competitions. A popular keynote speaker, the author has served as guest faculty for “Story Catcher Summer Writing Workshop and Festival” at Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center on the campus of Chadron State College. She also has facilitated writing workshops in South Dakota and Iowa and has conducted readings in New York and Pennsylvania.
A weekly columnist for the Vermillion (S.D.) Plain Talk and the Carroll (Iowa) Times Daily Herald, Damon previously taught college English and writing courses at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, Briar Cliff University, Western Iowa Tech Community College, and St. Luke’s College, all in Sioux City, Iowa.
The author holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the School of Contemporary Media and Journalism and a master’s degree in English, both from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion.
